Kellogg's Recall

News from Battle Creek, Michigan, is that Kellogg's Co., the cereal maker, is working with the Food and Drug Administration to recall about 28 million boxes of Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, Froot (correct spelling) Loops, and Honey Smacks because of an off-smell.

Consumers describe it as a “waxy” smell that may be coming from the cereal package's wax liner.

The company says it has received about 20 complaints. Five people reported experiencing nausea and vomiting, though the company is downplaying any potential health dangers.

The cereals were sent to stores in late March and are distributed throughout the U.S.

One has to look deep within the Kellogg’s Web site to find a news release. It says only products with the letters “KN” following the ‘Better if Used Before Date’ are included in the recall.

"We apologize to our consumers and our customers and are working diligently to ensure that the affected products are rapidly removed from the marketplace," said David Mackay, president and chief executive officer, Kellogg Company.

Those with questions or who would like a replacement may contact the Kellogg Consumer Response Center at 888-801-4163 from 8 am to 8 pm Eastern time.

Products with a "KM" designation are NOT included in the recall. In addition, no products in Canada are affected.

Here is a list of the recalled items:

My husband has been having nausea and bad cramping recently when he ate cereal. We were thinking he was becoming lactose intolerant. Then when this recall just hit the airwaves, I looked in the cabinet and we have three of the four recalled items in the pantry!! Wow...that's not good!!

I too have been experiencing nausea and severe cramping. I would have never guessed the cereal was causing it until I saw the recall of the Honey Smacks

I called to complain after the recall. I had the corn pops 2 days ago and I STILL feel like I am going to vomit. If you call them they will send you a coupon for a replacement item. It can be for pop tarts or any other there products since I won't be eating their cereal for a long time!! Also, I asked if they would release to the press what was IN the cereal's cause I am sure we would all like to know what we ingested!!!!!!! They said they plan to do that. It's scary, I gave a bit to my 16 month old, thank God he is ok just had diaharea

Get over folks! You can pick up bacteria anywhere! It's IMPOSSIBLE to prevent ALL contamination....I'm sure the company does its best, but people can get sick at a restaurant or even at home becuase of a simple mistake...for example a kid comes in and touches something with dirty hands and you didn't know it and poof someone gets sick! Guess what there's bacteria in your water too...even bottled!

Bought Corn Pops 2 weeks ago, I have had them 3 days, wondered what was wrong with me, as have had cramps and diarrhea, and feeling very worn out from it. With my allergies acting up I did not notice the smell, and it had been years since I had Corn Pops, so I thought my taste had changed. Still not up to par...

Ihave four kids that have been vomiting, cramping, and diarhea for a week now they better give me more than just a coupon. I realize that kids can pick up germs from anywhere but when you spend your hard earned money on food for your family you expect it not to make them sick.

I guess I am one of the "20" people who called in and ccomplained. I eat cereal regularly...well maybe more than once a day sometimes:), and first noticed a very unusual taste in my mouth after eating the cereal. I dismissed it as possibly a chemical from being in the yard and went about my business. After several weeks of the same problem, I started to remove certain foods from my diet in order to try to identify the culprit and since I only eat two meals a day and often they are both cereal, it was obvious after going a week without cereal where the taste came from. I then returned the food to my diet and the taste came back.

I had described the taste to the CS rep at Kelloggs as a metallic aftertaste but with a chemical tinge. It definately did not taste to me like it shold be inside the human body. The CS rep said that they had received multiple complaints regarding the issue and that she would refund my purchase price for another brand name cereal. I chose Fruit Loops as my next choice and come to find out, it too was one of the problem cereals. At least after seeing the news yesterday, I now dont feel like I am going crazy but I would like to know more about the specific cause of the taste other than coming from some part of the packing. Was is a dangerous chemical which might cause me harm in the long term?

If anyone has more info please let me know at sonicadvantage@comcast.net
Thanks
Robert

Yes, I have been sick for the last two days after I ate corn pops. I never eat this stuff but it was on sale so I got several boxes. I called the number and all I get is more crappy cereal for my time. What about the time and money lost from work? P.S. I must go to work today and yes I am still sick. This sucks,,,

The one day I threw up 15 times, I thought it was my milk! It was so bad, I was just puking bile and mucus. I would wake up at night and start gagging. To settle my stomach, I was eating dry apple jacks :/

I've put three calls into Kellogg's media department to answer some questions:
Is the contamination bacterial or chemical in nature?
Something else?
How is the company investigating the problem?
Does it seem to be coming from the wax liner?
What does the company plan to do to compensate those individuals who have a loss (besides being sick) such as missing work and/or paying for a doctor's appointment.

I'm still waiting for an answer and will update you all when I get one. I will keep trying!!!

I had gas pains last night.

I remember eating Froot Loops last year..do you think there is any connection??

I had a sore throat last year also...do you think it's connected to the Froot Loops I ate last year??

Maybe I can get the company to pay me for my pain and suffering from the gas pains, and maybe a new car too? What do you think??

Some of you people are so paranoid and stupid it is absolutely laughable!!
